I am an insomniac. I’ve lived with insomnia for as long as I can remember—since early childhood—and over the past half century it has been a frequent, defining presence. Perhaps not every night, but often enough that truly good, “normal” sleep still feels rare and noteworthy.
During that time I’ve gone through school and university, built a marriage, worked traditional and overnight jobs, freelanced, and spent two decades as a partner in a business founded by my wife. Across all of these chapters, insomnia has shaped my days and nights. Everything I share here comes either from my own experience or, where noted, from the experiences of others. This is my personal account, offered plainly and honestly. What I’ve learned, I continue to learn—right alongside you. I hope you’ll come along the journey with me to learn ways to be productive despite challenges with sleep.
